Beware of Maharaja Engineering College, Avinashi

Students of Maharaja Engineering College staged a demonstration in Tirupur on 13 August 2010.

About 600 students from two private engineering colleges near Avinashi thronged the Collectorate on Thursday to submit a memorandum to the Collector seeking his intervention on their complaints of the institutions levying exorbitant fees from them.

Goondaism: Tension prevailed on the premises for some time as students were also agitated over the attack said to have been unleashed on them both physically and verbally by some officials of the colleges and by outsiders when they expressed their protest inside the college campuses on Wednesday.

According to them, the two colleges run by the same group of institutions have been charging annual tuition fees as high as Rs. 81,000 against the government guidelines of Rs. 32,500.

They alleged that Rs. 40,000 per annum was charged from each student for hostel accommodation and food even though the quality of the edibles supplied were far from satisfactory.

Likewise, both the colleges situated on adjacent plots have common laboratories and play ground, they said.
